Americans are famous for living to work and not working to live. Many workers therefore end up exhausted, overextended and wishing for a change. For example, many American companies set aside 2 weeks of holiday for their staff, which is rolled in with sick days. So, if you take a sick day that's one less day you get for your vacation!!
If, like Americans you tend to have an unbalanced work/life relationship, don't worry! Americans are slowly changing the way they approach business, and so can you. Here are 3 tips you can use to make sure you work to live, and not the other way around:
1. Work on Flex Time.
Ask your boss if you could shift the hours you work to suit your life schedule. For example, some workers get to work early and leave early to make time to pick up their children from school.
2. Work from Home.
Working from home cuts down on the daily stresses of commuting and allows employees to accomplish tasks more at their own pace. Furthermore, because of the internet and mobile phones, it's easier to communicate with your work colleagues regularly.
3. Work Part-Time.
Examine your finances and see if you can afford to live on one income, or on reduced hours. Oftentimes, we work hard for things we don't need, so if reducing your hours will improve your quality of life, then go for it!!
